Worlds Day 1
Throughout the worlds campaign, the f2 and f1 women had the most challenging conditions of all. From calling off races to protests there was no stopping on the action. Day one saw Adelaide Cox take the win for f1 women closely followed by Kathrin Ortlieb and Shantelle King. With only 8 seconds between first and second place Cox pulled off an amazing race and a great start to team New Zealand in the Wellington World Championships.
Australia putting on a show for the world to see as they battled it out against one another, Rachael Stapleton, Kelsey Feros and Chelsea Blight all throwing in a huge effort to prove who deserved the number one title but Stapleton took it out with a lead of just one second. Rough being an understatement for the conditions it was a big commitment by all.
Juniors up next with the under 17 boys and girls. Jack Harrison and Ellen Jones being the favorites for these classes and they definitely proved they still had what it takes on the day. The Aussies took out all 6 podium places against the kiwi's after a big show from Kyle Taylor at the end of the race took him out of the running for the 1000 points, handing it to Jack harrison, Curtis Horsbury and Cameron Osbourne. Ellen took charge from the flag drop, catching most of the boys and giving them a run for their money, leaving the girls well behind with Alyssa Long 1 minute 25 seconds behind and Emma Barnes another 39 seconds on top of that. The conditions had smoothed off by race start with a slight chop.
The mens race was highly anticipated as the boys were up to show off what they had, Cranny towing Pete Procter was a crowd favourite and was always expected to do well. Procter had the perfect run from start to finish as he battled it out with Graziano for the lead. Todd Haig in a close third putting the American's on the podium with a strong 972 points. In mens f2 we saw another Aussie domination with over a minute between each skier on the podium. Ben gulley had the most impeccable run giving him the 1000 points and the lead over second place Daniel Cotton and third place Tyron Naismith. Conditions were smooth down the bottom corner of the course but the chop set in around the top.
